Sunny Deol



Biography
Sunny Deol,born as Ajay Singh Deol on October 19, 1961 in New Delhi,

India. He is a National Film Awards winning film (Bollywood) actor of

Punjabi descent.

Sunny Deol was born in Delhi, India, to veteran actor Dharmendra and

Prakash Kaur on October 19, 1961. He has a younger brother, Bobby

Deol, who is also an actor, two sisters who are settled in

California, and two half-sisters, Esha Deol, an actress and Ahana

Deol, from his father's re-marriage to famous actress Hema Malini.

His wife is Pooja Deol and they have two children. His cousin Abhay

Deol is also currently an actor. He always wanted to be an actor but

being the son of the famous actor, Dharmendra, it was difficult being

treated normal, so he went to England to study acting. He joined

theatre called the Old Web Theatre in Birmingham, England where he

studied theatre and acting.

As an Actor

Sunny made his acting debut in the blockbuster movie Betaab in 1983.

After some average movies he starred in an action film Arjun (1985).

He played the role of a jobless youth who is forced to to steal, rob,

beat up and kill. To become a gangster by circumstances he bought and

traded many guns and knives on the streets of Bombay (Mumbai). This

role established his image as the action hero of Bollywood. After

another period of mixed success, Sunny's breakthrough role came with

Ghayal (1990) directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. His role of a boxer who

fights for his family received cult status among cults. Many of his

films in the action genre including Tridev (1989), Vishwatma (1992),

Imtihaan (1995), Ghatak (1996), Ziddi (1997), Border (1998) and

Indian (2001) were some of the biggest hits of his career.

He has also had success in romantic and dramatic roles in films

including Chaalbaaz (1989), Damini (1993), Darr (1993), Jeet (1996)

and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001). Gadar: Ek Prem Katha remains one of

the most successful Bollywood films to date at the box office. His

last release is Apne which brought him together with his father and

brother together for the first time. The film was a huge hit at the

box office in India and unusually for a Deol starrer was a smashhit

overseas.

As a director

Sunny Deol has also tried his hand at direction with the (1999) film

Dillagi starring himself and younger brother Bobby Deol & Urmila

Matondkar.
